We are honoured to announce the launch of our latest publication – “Pearls from the Diwān of Imam al-Ḥaddād – Book Two of the Breezes of the Elect Series.”
Imam ʿAbdullāh bin ʿAlawī al-Ḥaddād is widely accepted as the Mujaddid (Renewer) of the twelth Islamic century and the Quṭb (Spiritual Pole) of his age. His works are read and studied worldwide and continue to be a means of calling people to Allah. His influence is still felt widely, particularly in Tarim where his poetry is recited daily.
Imam al-Ḥaddād’s works have spread across all corners of the globe – historically as far as the Malay region, the Indian subcontinent and to large parts of East Africa. His teachings have reached the English speaking world and are growing in popularity as each year passes. In particular, a small number of the Imam’s poetry has become well known, such as Qad Kafānī and Yā ʿĀlima’s-Sirri Minnā.
At 150 poems, Imam al-Ḥaddād’s own collection of poetry, his Diwān, is rich in size and meaning, being heavily inspired by the works of Imam al-Ghazālī. Through this new publication, we intend to introduce English speakers to the richness of his Diwān and the knowledge and beauty contained within it.
This compilation touches upon themes such as love of Allah and His Prophet ﷺ, taqwā (to have conciousness of God in every moment) and waraʿ (scrupulousness). The Imam also extensively speaks about the love he has for the pious predecessors, lamenting over their passing.
Imam al-Ḥaddād himself said of his Diwān that, “I have placed in this Diwān knowledge I have not placed in any of my other books.”

This Rabi al‑Awwal, we invite you to join us for our online and UK book‑launch tour as we introduce our latest publication throughout this blessed month.
The tour includes gatherings for women, for men, and for families.
We will also be launching ‘An Evening in Tarim – Jalsah al‑Awwābīn’ — a gathering initiated by Imām al‑Ḥaddād in Tarīm over three centuries ago.

Poetry for the Soul, from the Heart of Tarim
Following the launch of the first book in the Breezes of the Elect series in 2023, we have been working on a first of its kind compilation – a selection of 47 stunning poems from the Diwān of Imam al-Ḥaddād, translated into clear English by Shaykh Tahir Anwar and Shaykh Amin Buxton, complete with transliteration and extensive end notes.
As most of these poems have not been translated into English before, this compilation will allow access into the immense poetry of Imam al-Ḥaddād, giving us a glimpse into the heart and soul of the Imam himself. He himself said of his Diwān that, “The one who has the Diwān needs no other book.”
The book features a selection of the Imam’s poems chosen specifically for the Western world by Sayyid Muḥammad bin Ḥasan al-Ḥaddād (Tarim), Ḥabīb Aḥmad bin Abī Bakr al-Ḥaddād (Makkah), Dr. Mostafa Badawi (Madinah), Sayyid Zain al-Ḥaddād (Malaysia) and Shaykh Amin Buxton (UK).
We also received approval for a selection we had made from Sayyid Muḥammad bin Shaykh bin ʿAydarūs al-Ḥaddād (Tarim), a noble man who has memorised the whole of the Diwān, and is our proofreader for the Arabic text.
In addition, you will find a general ijāzah (permission) for anyone who wishes to hold the monthly Jalsah al-Awwābīn of Imam al-Ḥaddād gathering in their homes or communities. This gathering was initiated by Imam al-Ḥaddād himself and continues in Tarim and across the world today.
The layout of the text is similar to the layout found in the first Breezes of the Elect book, and is designed to be easy to read with minimal page turning required.

Imam al-Ḥaddād is known first and foremost as a caller to Allah, having spent his life calling people to Allah. He continues to call people now, more than 300 years after his death. His teachings have changed the lives of countless people speaking a variety of different languages in different places and times. The sincerity of his words continues to illuminate people’s hearts and bring them closer to their Lord. He clearly and concisely tells us what we need to do in order to live a life of service and true submission to God.
He compiled a number of litanies to help us remember Allah, wrote several seminal works, dozens of letters and a large collection of poetry, which is another expression of his call to Allah. In his poetry, he expresses his burning love for Allah and all those who are beloved to Allah. He praises what should be praised and teaches us the true value of things. Sometimes he offers practical advice. His experiences take us into other realms, beyond the physical and material. By reading and reflecting on his words we hope to absorb something of the state of this great Imam who continues to call us to Allah.

When you start speaking of Imam al-Ḥaddād and the likes of him, you start opening up a pot of perfume whose ending is like musk – its fragrance keeps spreading, but in reality it doesn’t actually end.
If you want to be someone, who in this day and age remains firm upon the deen of Allah… then you need to attach yourself to the likes of Imam ʿAbdullah bin ʿAlawī al-Ḥaddād, to the likes of Shaykh ʿAbdul Qādir al-Jīlānī, to the likes of Faqih al-Muqaddam and Sayyiduna Shaykh Abu Hassan al-Shādhilī – our pious predecessors – because they are upon that path that has already been trodden upon…and you will attain felicity.
